Staying with Aunt Jan

Staying with Aunt Jan

Next Tuesday, March 15, I turn thirteen. Happy early birthday to me!

But I don’t want to talk about my birthday, I want to talk about the fact that last month Mom and Dad left me with Aunt Jan for six whole hours! I’m not sure why they call her Aunt Jan, because we’re not related. I did find out that if anything bad were to happen to Mom and Dad, they have a “poodle clause” in their wills that states Aunt Jan will take care of me for the rest of my life.

Normally if Mom and Dad leave for that length of time I get the whole house to myself. But not on February 13th. They dropped me off at Aunt Jan’s house. Mom packed my two bags (one filled with toys and treats, the other holds my food and water dishes) and took one of my beds. Mom said it was a trial run. They wanted to see how I would deal with staying at someone else’s house.

Once I was alone with Aunt Jan, she played with me for hours. I batted the ball around as if I was playing soccer. Occasionally the ball found itself under the couch (not that I would ever intentionally kick it there) and Aunt Jan would have to grab the yardstick and crawl on the floor to retrieve it.

The best part was I got to take selfies with her iPhone. I had to send Dad pictures every so often so he would quit worrying about me. Aunt Jan and I had a great time.

Sometime this month I’ll be staying overnight with Aunt Jan. Something I’ve never done in my whole life—not sleep with Mom or Dad. Then in May I get to stay with Aunt Jan for four days and four nights. I hope Aunt Jan has a lot of space on her iPhone because I know Dad will want me to send him tons of pictures.

Thanks for taking good care of me Aunt Jan. See you soon!
