9 Items to Repurpose

I love to repurpose items, do you? We all have things hiding in drawers or in the back of a closet that we haven’t used in years. Why not pull them out and use them in a new way. Here’s a few ideas to get you started.

  1. Silk Scarves. Take a scarf you no longer wear, or buy one at a thrift store, and use it to jazz up a plain wrapped present. The scarf looks beautiful tied on the package, plus the recipient gets an extra gift.
  2. Crayon Pieces. Don’t throw out the small pieces of crayons. Put several different colors in the cups of a muffin tin and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool. You’ll end up with crayon “cookies” that the kids will love to draw with.
  3. Jewelry. Take an old bracelet and hook it on a plain necklace chain. Everyone will think you have an expensive, rare piece of jewelry.
  4. Pillowcase. Cut a slit in an old pillowcase and slip it over a hanger to create a garment bag for your clothes.
  5. Tea Cup and Saucer. Flip a teacup and use tacky glue to attach the saucer to the bottom of the cup. Use this pretty idea to serve small desserts, hold jewelry, loose change, or a bar of soap. Best of all, the cup and saucer don’t have to match!
  6. Soap Slivers. Don’t toss the last bit of a bar of soap. Store them in a plastic bag and place it in your sewing box. Use the soap pieces to mark fabric. The soap allows for precise stitching and it washes away in the laundry. Additional uses include rubbing the soap bits on a zipper to make it run smoother or lubricate a needle so it glides through thick fabric.
  7. Muffin Tin. If you’re baking and run out of cooling racks, turn a muffin tin upside down. Works perfectly in a pinch!
  8. Wooden Skirt Hanger. An easy way to display your children’s artwork is to hang it from a wooden skirt hanger. Hang the wooden hanger from a nail and clamp the artwork into place. It’s an easy way to display creative works of art.
  9. Silverware Drawer Organizer. Use a drawer organizer to keep your tealight, birthday, or tapered candles arranged in orderly manner.
