Button Trees

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love putting up the tree and decorating it with ornaments. It’s like a trip down memory lane with every ornament I hang on the tree.

Making these button trees is a similar experience. I determined what size of tree I wanted (the size of the canvas) and what ornaments (the color of buttons) to put on the tree. One tree I made in all white, and the other was a traditional green tree with colorful ornaments.

These button trees have a special place in my heart as these buttons came from my mother’s button canisters.

Supplies:

  • Artist Canvas
  • Buttons (various sizes and colors)
  • Glue Gun and Sticks

Directions:

  1. Sort your buttons by color and shape.
  2. Arrange the bottom layer of buttons (the tree) on the canvas. Once satisfied with the shape of the tree, glue each button on the canvas.
  3. Add a second layer of buttons (the ornaments) in various spots on the tree. Glue in place.

If you prefer, you could make a pink tree, a gold or silver tree, or a multicolored tree. Have fun and be creative!

These button trees also make a great gift for a co-worker, hairdresser, teacher, or friend.

Note: I added a couple ornament sticker strands and caption on the second tree.
