Halloween O’Henry Bars

Chocolate and Halloween go hand-in-hand in my book. How about you? Make this tasty treat and have fun decorating.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 3/4 cup White Karo Syrup
  • 8 ounces Chocolate Chips
  • 3/4 cup Peanut Butter
  • White Frosting
  • Yellow and Red Food Coloring

Directions:

  1. Mix oats, brown sugar, and butter like a piecrust.
  2. Add karo syrup and mix well.
  3. Spread onto 10-inch x 15-inch pan. Bake 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees. Bake until golden brown and bubbly. Do not overbake.
  4. Let cool.
  5. Melt the chocolate chips, then add the peanut butter and mix well. Spread over oat mixture. Refrigerate.
  6. Run a knife through the chocolate (don’t cut through the oatmeal layer) to draw 15 squares.
  7. Add red and yellow food coloring to the white frosting, making the desired orange color. Spoon the frosting in a storage bag, then cut the tip of one corner.
  8. With the frosting, draw a pumpkin or write EEK, BOO, or R.I.P. in each square with the frosting.

When ready to serve, fully cut each square. Enjoy and have a Happy Halloween!
