10 Uses for Rubber Bands

Ten Uses for Rubber Bands

Rubber bands can corral a pile of mail or a handful of pens, but they do some of their best work when they are out of the office.

  1. Place a rubber band around a stubborn jar cap. It will improve your grip and make twisting easier.
  2. If you’ve lost the metal fastener for a pair of earrings, snip off a bit of rubber band and pierce it with the earring post.
  3. Stretch rubber bands around the top and bottom of your cutting board to prevent it from sliding as you slice and dice.
  4. Put a rubber band around ribbon to keep it from unspooling.
  5. If you keep a book in your purse or bag, wrap a rubber band around the cover to protect the pages from getting bent or crushed.
  6. Loop a rubber band around a doorknob so that it forms an “X” shape across the latch when you need to keep a door open.
  7. If you have a stripped screw try this trick. Place a rubber band flat over the screw head then press your screwdriver into the head and give a twist.
  8. If you have a top that slips off a hanger, loop a rubber band around the ends of the hanger. No more slippage!
  9. To keep a spoon or ladle from sliding down into a pot, wrap a rubber band around the end of the handle. The rubber band will provide enough grip to keep the spoon from sliding.
  10. Place a rubber band around the handle of a stubborn bottle of nail polish.
