Rubber bands can corral a pile of mail or a handful of pens, but they do some of their best work when they are out of the office.
- Place a rubber band around a stubborn jar cap. It will improve your grip and make twisting easier.
- If you’ve lost the metal fastener for a pair of earrings, snip off a bit of rubber band and pierce it with the earring post.
- Stretch rubber bands around the top and bottom of your cutting board to prevent it from sliding as you slice and dice.
- Put a rubber band around ribbon to keep it from unspooling.
- If you keep a book in your purse or bag, wrap a rubber band around the cover to protect the pages from getting bent or crushed.
- Loop a rubber band around a doorknob so that it forms an “X” shape across the latch when you need to keep a door open.
- If you have a stripped screw try this trick. Place a rubber band flat over the screw head then press your screwdriver into the head and give a twist.
- If you have a top that slips off a hanger, loop a rubber band around the ends of the hanger. No more slippage!
- To keep a spoon or ladle from sliding down into a pot, wrap a rubber band around the end of the handle. The rubber band will provide enough grip to keep the spoon from sliding.
- Place a rubber band around the handle of a stubborn bottle of nail polish.
