Button Decorated Pillows

Take an ordinary, undecorated throw pillow and turn it into a work of art.

Do you have a container of buttons? I have two coffee cans full of buttons I’ve collected over the course of thirty-five years from clothing, sewing projects, and craft ventures. I’ve taken some of the buttons hidden in the cabinet of my craft room and turned a tired throw pillow into a beautiful accent piece.

Supplies:

  • Buttons
  • Throw Pillow (preferably with a zipper)
  • Sliver from a Bar of Soap
  • Needle and Thread
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Draw a design or monogram on the pillow with the bar of soap. By using a bar of soap, the outline can easily be erased with a dab of water.
  2. Select your buttons and sew them on the line of soap.

Design ideas include a heart, butterfly, the sun, crescent moon, rainbow, tree, or flowers. I’ll be moving to Utah in a couple years and wanted to make something for my new home. The “O” in home is the shape of the state of Utah.

How did your project turn out?
