Sour Candy Day

Sour Candy Day

July 18th is National Sour Candy Day. These fun and zesty bite-sized candies come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors.

Sour candy got a rough start in the 19th century. People were concerned with the potentially harmful chemicals being used in the colorful treats. In the early 1950s, candy makers forever linked candy to Halloween, allowing them the freedom to slowly introduce new flavors. In 1954, the Atomic Fireball hit the market. Lemonhead candy was introduced in 1962 and become a hit. The Foreign Candy Co. brought Warheads to the U.S. from Thailand in 1993. In 2015, the American Licorice Company established National Sour Candy Day.

According to the Candy Club, the three sourest candies in the world are:

  1. Sour Nerds
  2. Sour Skittles
  3. Sour Patch Kids Extreme

I love sour candy. Do you?
